History and Significance
There is a particular kind of Vacheron Constantin that feels almost impossible to replace with a modern watch. Reference 92060 comes from the Les Historiques collection, a line through which Vacheron revisited the restrained designs that had defined the manufacture for generations. Rather than trying to modernize the traditional dress watch, this one embraces it completely: thin case, long curved lugs, small seconds, and almost nothing on the dial that doesn't need to be there.
At 33mm, the proportions are exactly where you want them for a watch like this. The yellow gold case is slim and elegant, but the elongated lugs give the watch more presence on the wrist than the diameter would suggest. Inside is a manual-wind movement, keeping the case thin and preserving the ritual that makes a traditional dress watch like this enjoyable to own.
The dial is where the 92060 really comes together. The warm white surface is broken up by slender applied markers, Roman numerals at the cardinal positions, a small-seconds register at six, and Vacheron's Maltese cross sitting above the signature. There is a lot of restraint here, but it never feels plain.
This example is completed by its original Vacheron Constantin yellow gold buckle and is fitted to a new HC leather strap. For us, this is the type of Vacheron that makes the strongest argument for looking backward in the brand's catalog. It is elegant without being delicate, interesting without being complicated, and unmistakably from an era when proportions mattered more than presence.
Writer's Thoughts
The 92060 doesn't need a complication or an oversized case to make it interesting. The shape of the lugs, the small seconds, the combination of Roman numerals and simple baton markers, and the thin yellow gold case do all of the work. There is an elegance to it that feels difficult to recreate when you start making a dress watch larger.
The 33mm case is also much better on the wrist than the measurement might make you think. Those long lugs stretch the watch out visually, and the very thin profile makes it disappear under a cuff. Add the original yellow gold Vacheron buckle and it becomes a really complete little package.
