The reference 16750 occupies a narrow but important place in GMT-Master history. It was the watch that began moving the GMT toward the modern era while still retaining much of the appearance collectors associate with the earlier reference 1675. Rolex introduced a higher-beat movement and quickset date, making the watch considerably easier to live with, but the earliest examples still looked remarkably vintage.
That early production window is what matters here. Only the earlier 16750s received the matte dial with painted tritium hour plots before Rolex transitioned the reference to glossy dials with white gold surrounds. This 1982 example comes from that desirable first generation, giving you the mechanical improvements of the 16750 while preserving the matte-dial aesthetic of the 1675 that came before it.
The 16750 also represents the final generation of the GMT-Master with the thinner vintage-style case profile before later GMT references became more substantial. That combination makes it a true transitional watch: old proportions and an early matte dial paired with a more modern movement underneath. And this particular dial has aged beautifully. The tritium has matured into a rich, even cream that immediately warms up the black matte surface. It isn't dramatic because it needs to be.
