History and Significance
The reference 3775 belongs to a period where Patek Philippe was producing some of its most interesting shaped dress watches. Often referred to by collectors as the “Les Grecques,” the watch takes its nickname from the engraved Greek key motif framing the dial. It is a small detail, but one that completely defines the character of the piece.
While many rectangular Patek references from the era leaned toward minimalism, the 3775 feels more architectural and decorative without becoming excessive. The stepped case construction, engraved side fluting, and geometric dial border all give the watch a distinctly 1980s design language while still remaining unmistakably Patek Philippe.
According to the Extract from the Archives, this example was manufactured in 1984 and sold later that same year. Inside is the ultra-thin caliber 177 manual winding movement, one of the elegant slim calibers that allowed Patek to keep proportions exceptionally refined during this period.
Writer’s Thoughts
This is the kind of Patek that reminds you how strong the brand’s dress watches were outside of the usual Calatrava conversation. The Greek key dial border changes the entire feel of the watch. Without it, this would be a very restrained rectangular dress watch. With it, the piece suddenly has personality and feels almost like wearable architecture. At 24mm, it sounds small on paper, but the rectangular shape and broad case architecture give it much more presence than expected. It feels very much like a proper vintage Patek rather than a delicate jewelry watch.
