1997 Rolex Submariner Faded Navy Bezel - Box & Papers (Ref. 16610)
- Worth A Read
- Specifications
The 16610 is the classic neo-vintage Submariner. While the reference is common, this specific example is pretty special. A beautiful tritium example with a stunning bezel. The black colored bezel has faded into a deep navy blue color that is even and clean. It's one of the coolest things to look for with the neo-vintage submariners because patina isn't easy to find with these later Submariners.
The Submariner - In 1954, Rolex introduced the first Submariner model, which became the most recognized luxury sports watch. The watch was water-resistant up to 100 meters and became the most sought-after watch. Since then, Rolex has made numerous changes and developments, including the introduction of the 6204 and 6205 models, the 6536 and 6538 references, and the 1030 reference. The company has made significant contributions to the watchmaking industry.
In the early 1960s, Rolex introduced several models, including the 5508 and 5510, with numerous dial changes. The 5512 and 5513 models featured lacquered dials with gold or silver printing. The Submariner 1680 introduced a date display in 1968, following the Sea-Dweller. The first Submariner 1680 had a collector's item "Red Submariner" dial, with six dial versions. The Submariner 1680 was produced until 1979. The first Submariner in solid yellow gold was the Submariner Date, a success in Italy and the US market. Over the next 40 years, the Submariner underwent technical developments, improved water-resistance, new movements, and aesthetic changes.

Case: The 39mm case is in fantastic shape. The lugs still have thick chamfers, and the original bezel is clean. The case looks unpolished. The bezel is stunning. It has started to fade into a beautiful navy color. The bezel does have some marks, but with the blue patina, it gives off a lot of character. This is very similar to a 'Ghost Bezel' look on vintage Submariners.
Dial: The dial and hands are original with tritium lume.
Strap & Buckle: The bracelet is in great condition with 11 links.
