The Cartier Tank Stepped Case, originally produced in the late 70s, comes in three unique references: Paris, London, and New York City. The "NYC" reference stands out due to its superior build quality, including a gold-plated brass case, screwed-down case back, and recessed crown. With only 2,500 examples ever produced, it demands a higher premium than the Paris and London editions.
The "NYC" is a unique offshoot from the traditional Tank, with a 28mm case larger than the traditional 23mm. This bold move in the 70s allowed the case to have noticeable wrist presence. The bevelled step design wraps around the dial, while the hand-painted black lacquer dial features sword-shaped hands. The taller case also allows for slightly curved corner roman numerals, an elegant detail for the keen eye.
