Worth A Read

Favre-Leuba? - Favre Leuba, a Swiss watchmaker, has been dedicated to creating fine watches since 1737. Founded by Abraham Favre in 1735, the company has since expanded globally, with its son, Abraham Favre Jr., joining Auguste Leuba in 1815. The company's monopusher chronograph watches gained recognition in the 1960s, and it continued to use Ebauche movements until the 1960s.

In 1955, Favre Leuba created its own Calibre movement, the FL101, which was used in models like the Sea Chief, Sea King, and Sea Raider. The Calibre FL102 was later launched, followed by the FL103 and FL104 movements, complete with a date function. In 1960, Favre Leuba became a respected manufacturer of diving watches, with the Water Deep model becoming an indispensable tool for explorers and adventure seekers. The Bivouac, worn by parachute flyers during the 1962 World Cup, was the first mechanical wristwatch to house an aneroid barometer for altimeter and air pressure. Walter Bonatti also wore the Favre Leuba on his wrist when he ascended the north face of Pointe Whymper in 1964 with Michael Vaucher.

Following the success of the Calibre FL251, the company released the Deep Blue watch with a 200-meter water-resistant case, followed by the Bathy in 1968. The Sea Sky and Sea Sky GMT models were launched in the 80s before the Favre family sold the company.

In 2011, Favre Leuba resurfaced, now owned by the Tata Group in Zug, with new wristwatches like the Raider Harpoon and the altitude-friendly Bivouac 9000. The brand celebrated its 280th anniversary with the Raider Bathy 120 MemoDepth, and the company has since celebrated its 50th anniversary with ambassadors like Satyarup Siddhanta, Pen Hadow, and Sayuri Kinoshita.
