In a world where the idea of luxury and Mickey Mouse was never really a thing, Gerald Genta changed that. It was said that during the 90s, the CEO of Disney, being a fan of Genta, came to him for a special watch to be made with Mickey on it. Whilst Genta did agree to the idea, he came to him with an additional proposal. To get the rights to use Mickey and other characters on his dials. With that came some of the most collectible watches from the Gerald Genta brand. This also made the idea of luxury and Mickey Mouse a reality.

The Disney dials came in many different models. From simple time-only examples like this Octagonal Retro to beautiful retrograde and jump hours. Genta didn't just put the characters on the dial but also made them a part of the watch's complications. If it's Mickey's hands pointing at the time or Mickey Swinging a golf club as the retrograde functions.

Gerald Genta, a Swiss watch designer, was active from the 1950s until his death in 2011. Born in Geneva, Switzerland in 1931, he began his career at Universal Geneve and worked with the watch brand until the mid-1960s. He designed timepieces for Audemars Piguet, Omega, Patek Philippe, Cartier, Bulgari, Van Cleef & Arpels, Hamilton, and others. In 1969, Genta launched his eponymous brand, Gerald Genta, to create exceptional pieces for his exclusive clients. In 2000, Bulgari acquired the Gerald Genta brand and continued to manufacture watches under the designer’s famous name. In 2023, Louis Vuitton’s watchmaking manufacture announced that it acquired the Gerald Genta brand and will produce high-complication pieces under the brand name.

Gerald Genta also launched another brand, Gerald Charles, using his middle name. After the Bulgari acquisition in 2000, Genta launched another brand, Gerald Charles, this time using his middle name. In 2003, the brand was sold to a group of investors but Genta stayed on as designer-in-chief. Under the Gerald Charles marque, Genta unveiled the Maestro watch in 2006, playfully using his famous nickname.

Gerald Genta died in 2011 at the age of 80 and left behind a lasting legacy of iconic watches. He created over 100,000 different watches during his five-decade-long career, many of which remain in production today. Some of his most notable designs include the Universal Genève Polerouter Watch, the Omega Constellation Watch, the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Watch, the IWC Ingenieur Watch, and the Patek Philippe Nautilus Watch.

Gerald Genta, a renowned watch designer, is known for his iconic designs such as the Bulgari Bulgari watch, Cartier Pasha de Cartier watch, and Gerald Genta watches. Bulgari offered 100 of its top clients a gold quartz watch with a digital display in 1975, which was redesigned by Genta in 1977. Cartier Pasha de Cartier, designed in 1985, is known for its luxurious sports watch style while maintaining Cartier's signature aesthetics. Gerald Genta also designed several notable pieces, including the Gefica Safari, the Gefica Safari Safari, and the Gerald Genta Grand Sonnerie. However, some watch designs, such as the Vacheron Constantin 222, Patek Philippe Ellipse, and the Royal Oak Offshore, were not designed by Genta. His legacy continues to shape watches for the foreseeable future, with the Royal Oak and Nautilus being the most coveted ultra-luxury sports watches in today's market.
