The Patek Philippe Ref. 3923 has become one of the most desired Calatravas from the neo-vintage era. Drawing on decades of Patek history, the 3923 represents a truly timeless watch that we believe will never go out of style. And quite frankly, if it does go out of style we are not sure we would want to carry on in such a tragic world! Fortunately, we have no doubt that this timeless classic will persist onwards and upwards!
The Bauhaus philosophy of form follows function is clearly present in this example. The 31mm round case, unpolished in rose gold, reflects the circular form of the movement inside and symbolizes the passage of time that circularly starts over each day. It features a snap-on-caseback and a flat polished bezel. For those who have had the opportunity to experience a Ref. 96 or Ref. 3796, the 3923 is truly a sibling to these fine watches. The case size and shape wears in a similar fashion with the only major differentiator being the long lugs of the 96/3796 versus the minimally shorter lugs of the 3923. We find that the short lugs of the 3923 are very well suited to its 31mm case size.
The blemish-free dial with Dauphine hands, applied gold hour markers, and small seconds sub-dial give contrast and balance to the watch. This is a perfectly proportioned watch and is indicative of the elements that have made Patek Philippe the most famous watchmaker.
Most 3923’s were produced in yellow gold, and this rare rose gold variant is luxuriously elegant. It gives the watch richness and warmth expected of a classic vintage timepiece. This unpolished mint condition example comes complete with its original Patek Philippe box and booklet. It is on an original Patek Philippe black alligator strap with its original Patek-Philippe signed buckle. This is a rare opportunity to acquire one of the fastest rising calatrava’s in Patek Philippe’s historical catalog.
