The Patek Philippe Ref. 3923 has become one of the most desired Calatravas from the neo-vintage era. The Bauhaus philosophy of form follows function is clearly present in this example. The 31mm round case, unpolished in rose gold, reflects the circular form of the movement inside and symbolizes the passage of time that circularly starts over each day. It features a snap-on-caseback and a flat polished bezel. For those who have had the opportunity to experience a Ref. 96 or Ref. 3796, the 3923 is truly a sibling to these fine watches. The case size and shape wears in a similar fashion with the only major differentiator being the long lugs of the 96/3796 versus the minimally shorter lugs of the 3923. We find that the short lugs of the 3923 are very well suited to its 31mm case size.
The blemish-free dial with Dauphine hands, applied gold hour markers, and small seconds sub-dial give contrast and balance to the watch. This is a perfectly proportioned watch and is indicative of the elements that have made Patek Philippe the most famous watchmaker.
