Universal Genève is usually discussed through the watches that made the brand famous: Compax chronographs, Polerouters, and the various complications that helped establish its reputation as one of Switzerland’s great 20th-century manufactures. Instead of building the watch around a recognizable dial or complication, Universal Genève effectively removes the dial altogether and makes the movement the entire point.

The micro-rotor is what makes this one. Skeleton watches are interesting on their own, but seeing Universal Genève expose a movement architecture that is already unusual gives the whole thing a reason to exist beyond decoration. There is something satisfying about being able to follow the mechanism visually while the tiny rotor sits almost tucked into the movement.

It is also refreshingly strange for Universal Genève. This is not the obvious UG to buy, and that makes it more appealing. The reference 151.11.662 feels like a watch for someone who already understands why the Polerouter and Compax matter and wants to see another side of the manufacture. The fact that it can be appreciated equally as a piece of watchmaking and as a tiny mechanical object is probably the best part.
